Welcome to our Science Summer School
We are delighted to introduce our Science Summer School (SSS), now in its 14th year. At its heart, SSS aims to inspire, educate and empower the next generation of STEAM leaders. The programme is led in partnership with Brian Cox, Andrew Mawson, St Paul’s Way Trust School, and University Schools Trust.
Each year, we welcome students from across East London to explore science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics through an exciting programme of hands-on experiences. Students gain valuable insights into industry and engage with real-life role models who are shaping the future of STEAM.
More than an educational experience, SSS is designed to ignite ambition, broaden horizons and showcase the wide range of opportunities available within these fields. It forms part of a growing national movement to address the UK’s STEAM skills gap and improve diversity within these industries.
Women only make up 29% of the STEAM force and many minority groups are underrepresented.
We are committed to breaking barriers, broadening opportunities and increasing inclusivity that also ensures every young person sees a future for themselves in STEAM.
We have already broadened the horizons of SSS and taken it beyond the borders of London, with our initiative expanding to Yorkshire and Northern Ireland. Join us every year at SSS so we can continue to inspire the next generation, building a bright future for all!

The Future of SSS
The future we strive to create for SSS is truly an inspiring one. We are committed to growing our impact and inspiring even more young minds. Our aim, over the next 5 years, is to expand Science Summer School into a multi-site event held over several days. The idea is to welcome more students for a hands-on experience and career-shaping opportunities in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths).
Our vision is to spark curiosity and inspirational industry connections to even more young people across London by promoting the incredible possibilities within STEAM careers. We understand it cannot succeed solely on our own, which is why we are constantly reaching out to potential parents, sponsors and collaborators to join us in making the impact we know SSS can make for the communities we serve.
Together, we can inspire the next generation of STEAM leaders.
Transforming Education in Tower Hamlets
St Paul’s Way (SPW) aims to provide transformational and innovative education. To maintain this commitment we created the Science Summer School, a pioneering collaboration between housing, health, education providers and the private sector to revive a deprived area of Tower Hamlets. This initiative fosters new networks, strengthens community relationships and builds a shared vision for the future.
SPW was once one of the lowest-performing schools in the country, now it has risen to become one of the top schools in Tower Hamlets, completely exceeding the national averages in key performance areas. Our mission is to replicate this dramatic change by targeting the STEAM skills gap with career-shaping opportunities like Science Summer School.
Our Impact:
- 71% of students’ graduate to go onto Higher Education (remainder into employment or Degree Apprenticeships)
- 55% of A Level grades were A*-B, above the local average of 42%
- Year-on-year rises of students taking up STEAM subjects
- 97% of our sixth form students are from the BAME community.
With SSS and our wider education initiative, we will continue to create opportunities for the next generation of innovators and leaders and empower them to open doors into STEAM careers.
Science Summer School 2025

This year we are making a return to our in-person Science Summer School on Monday, June 30th, for the first time in 5 years!
This event will allow curious minds to explore new knowledge, and gain access to an engaging mix of key speakers and hands-on workshops. It’s a way for students to bring their studies to life experimenting with fresh new ideas and discovering the unknown.
The theme of this year is to celebrate science, innovation, curiosity and most importantly the people behind the discoveries. This way students are exposed to the route of the journey, process and possible connection within this career sector, opening new doors.
Using this wide range of content, we aim to ignite their imaginations and provide them with an inspiring and interactive experience.
We are proud to welcome a diverse group of students, with 47% being eligible for pupil premium on average. This reflects the broad spectrum of schools that have been invited to participate, so we can ensure SSS is accessible to a wide range of students and continues to have a positive impact on young people from all backgrounds.
Join us for an inspiring day of discovery, connection and community at out Science Summer School 2025!
Inspiring Young Minds
Engaging a Younger Audience
Events like SSS usually focus their workshops on older students who have already established their career path of choice.
we aim to inspire the minds of younger students from early on and bridge that gap between primary and secondary school.
The goal is to spark interest in pathways that will prepare them for the challenges of the modern workplace. This will ensure they don’t turn away from the exciting opportunities within the STEAM fields.
In support of this objective, we welcome students in Years 6 and 7 to participate, to give them the chance to explore, learn and connect with STEAM careers before they even transition to secondary school
Opening The Door For Our Sixth Formers

Our Sixth Form students will also play a key role in SSS 2025!
The Sixth Formers will be acting as an ambassador for the event and will participate in a careers-focused networking evening at the end of the event. This will open the door of opportunity for them to connect with professionals working across STEAM industries. This means students will gain valuable insights into the working world and will be able to build genuine connections with people already shaping the future of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths
University Schools Trust
St Paul’s Way School (SPW) is a proud member of the University Schools Trust (UST). They are a multi-Academy Trust currently collaborating with six leading Higher Education providers as well as a range of public and private sector supporters.
Together, as one union, we have developed an innovative curriculum that places scientific discovery and importance at the heart of education. We are truly empowering students to explore and excel within STEAM subjects, possibly even taking on board career paths.
Royal Greenwich Trust School offers one of the leading engineering courses in London. We are proud to say we are working in partnership, and so in turn, are in a unique position to help shape the future of STEAM and inspire the leaders.
