This term, a group of Year 12 and Year 13 female students from St Paul’s Way Secondary School had the exciting opportunity to attend the Women in Tech event hosted by HSBC at Canary Wharf.  

The event offered a fascinating and inspiring glimpse into the fast-paced world of technology, highlighting the many career paths available to young women in this ever-evolving industry. 

Throughout the day, students heard from women working across HSBC in areas such as data analysis, software development, and cybersecurity.

A lively panel discussion and a series of interactive sessions encouraged students to reflect on their own skills and interests, and how these could be applied to roles in the technology sector.

Highlights of the day included hearing first-hand stories from women who had progressed through HSBC’s Tech Apprenticeship programme, alongside practical advice on pathways into the industry from university routes to professional placements.  

The event also tackled common stereotypes about women in technology, demonstrating how diversity and inclusion are key to innovation and success in the digital world. 

By the end of the visit, students left feeling empowered and motivated, with a stronger understanding of the opportunities available to them in tech and the confidence that they, too, can be leaders in shaping the future of technology. 

This event perfectly reflects our school value of Aspiration. It encouraged students to look beyond traditional career paths, dream big, and believe in their ability to break barriers.  

By meeting inspirational women who have forged successful careers in technology, our students saw first-hand that ambition, curiosity, and perseverance can open doors to limitless possibilities.
