Year 6 Parents Transition Session

This term, our Year 6 parents gathered for an informative transition session led by our Year 6 Teacher, Ms Shackcloth and Deputy Head teacher, Mr Ash. The session aimed to provide a valuable insight into the upcoming SATs and the transition process to secondary school, helping both parents and pupils feel more confident about the next steps.

Ms Shackcloth began by explaining the structure of the SATs, which include key assessments such as the Maths, Reading, and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar) tests.

She reassured parents that these tests are based on the skills their children have learned from Year 3 to 6, and that preparing thoroughly helps build confidence. Key strategies like BIDMAS and times table fluency were highlighted as essential tools for success.

Additionally, parents were informed about the practicalities of the SATs, including the test duration, what to expect on the day, and how absences are managed. The session explained to parents how we accommodate the needs of pupils who require extra time or additional support.

Mr Ash then provided an overview of the secondary school application process. Parents were advised on how to apply through the e-Admissions portal and given helpful tips on selecting schools, including visiting open days to ensure the best fit for their children.

The session also covered essential dates and information regarding school banding and the appeals process.

Both teachers encouraged parents to ask questions and provided resources for home support, such as practice papers and online tools like CGP, ThirdSpaceLearning, and Rising Stars.

By fostering open communication between school and home, this session embodied the school's core value of community, ensuring that every child has the support and guidance needed to transition successfully to the next phase of their education.
