Helping Families Prepare for Year 6 SATs

We recently welcomed parents and carers to a dedicated workshop designed to help families understand the Year 6 SATs process and discover practical ways to support their children as they prepare for these important assessments.

The session provided clear guidance on what to expect in the lead up to SATs, helping parents feel informed and confident about how best to support learning at home. Families received advice on keeping revision light and manageable, alongside information about where to access practice papers and how to help children establish positive study routines without feeling overwhelmed.

Parents also had the opportunity to ask questions directly about their child’s progress, discuss any concerns and learn more about the additional support available through our targeted pupil support programme. We recognise that every child learns differently, and we are committed to ensuring that those who need extra guidance receive the help and encouragement they deserve.

An important message shared during the workshop was that SATs do not tell the whole story of a child’s knowledge, abilities or achievements. Although pupils sit their assessments over four days, their learning and development extend far beyond these examinations. We encouraged families to maintain a balanced perspective, celebrate progress and reassure children throughout the process.

The workshop also covered practical arrangements for SATs week, including key dates, the mock examination timetable and what happens if a child becomes unwell on the day of an assessment. Parents were reminded that our school team is available to offer further advice and support whenever needed.

We believe that a strong partnership between home and school helps children approach challenges with confidence. By working together, we can create a positive environment where every pupil feels supported and ready to do their best.

This initiative reflects our school value of Community, demonstrating the importance of families and staff working together to help every child thrive and achieve their potential.
