As part of Work Experience Week, Year 10 students visited the University of Sunderland's new Canary Wharf campus to learn more about higher education and the exciting opportunities it can provide. The visit gave students valuable insight into university life while helping them explore possible career pathways for the future.

During the day, students toured the university's modern facilities and discovered more about the wide range of degree courses available. They learned about the different routes into higher education and how university study can support a variety of careers across many sectors.

A particular highlight of the visit was the simulation hospital ward, where students met Anne, a highly realistic training mannequin used by healthcare students. They were fascinated to learn how Anne can simulate a wide range of medical conditions and procedures, including having blood taken.

This gave students a unique insight into how future healthcare professionals develop their practical skills in a safe and realistic learning environment.

The visit also encouraged students to think about the knowledge and skills required for careers in healthcare and other professional fields. By experiencing university facilities first hand, students were able to see how classroom learning can lead to exciting opportunities beyond school and gain a greater understanding of the pathways available to them.

This experience reflects our school value of Aspiration. By introducing students to higher education, showcasing innovative learning environments and encouraging them to consider future career opportunities, the visit inspired them to aim high and work towards achieving their ambitions.
