A group of approximately 10 Year 12 students recently attended an engaging Allied Health Professions (AHP) workshop at University of Greenwich, providing valuable insight into the wide range of healthcare careers available beyond medicine and dentistry.

Delivered in partnership with healthcare professionals and representatives from the University of Greenwich, the session introduced students to the important role that Allied Health Professionals play within the healthcare system. Students learned how AHPs contribute to improving patient outcomes, supporting rehabilitation and enhancing overall quality of life across a variety of settings.

The workshop highlighted the diverse career opportunities available within the sector, including roles in hospitals, community healthcare services, private practice and research. Students discovered that careers in allied health encompass a broad range of specialisms and offer rewarding opportunities to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

A key focus of the session was the skills required to succeed in these professions. Students explored the importance of communication, teamwork, empathy and problem-solving, recognising how these attributes are essential when working with patients and colleagues in healthcare environments.

Representatives from the University of Greenwich also provided information about their allied health courses, including entry requirements, placement opportunities and professional registration pathways. This gave students a clearer understanding of the routes available to them after sixth form and the steps needed to pursue a career within the sector.

The workshop was both informative and inspiring, increasing students’ awareness of the breadth of opportunities available within Allied Health Professions and the growing demand for qualified professionals across the healthcare industry.
