In celebration of NSPCC’s Number Day, we hosted an event on the 7th of February designed to promote both numeracy and charity.

Kicking off the week with a whole-school assembly, discussing the true meaning of charity and highlighting the importance of mathematics. They participated in mini math challenges and learned how NSPCC can support them directly.

All pupils arrived at school dressed head to toe in non-uniform outfits, with numbers featured in a variety of different ways. In return for getting to dress up, the pupils made a small donation with all proceeds going towards NSPCC’s charity.

Just £4 is enough to help one child, and we’ve raised an amazing number of £73 so far.

Many pupils decided to wear sports jerseys with their favourite players’ numbers, while others designed t-shirts with numbers plastered all over them. It was truly an innovative way to get everyone in a creative mood for maths.

During their maths lessons, pupils took part in interactive activities such as singing their timetables and drawing cartoon bowls to practice division.

Mustafa, Year 2 pupil, said, “I made 5 bowls and then counted 15 between each to get 3,”.

Using this fun approach to mathematics truly inspires the pupils to tackle difficult equations without feeling overwhelmed by the process.

We had a few Year 6 pupils, two of which being Tahib and Eviee, challenge other year groups to guess the amount of Jelly beans in a jar.

There was a whopping 372 jelly beans. We had a lot of good guesses but many were way off the right answer. Year 3 pupil, Layla, said, “I think there’s 200,” while Hannah guessed , “98.”

No one was as close as Indiya-Rae from Havana Year 6 who guessed the number 370 and was awarded the entire jar of jelly beans!

Number Day isn’t just about maths alone, it reflects heavily on our core values of aspiration and community. it's inspiring pupils to embrace challenges with determination while simultaneously encouraging socialisation amongst peers.

We can’t wait to come up with more creative ways to motivate our pupils to confidently approach challenges in the future!
