SPWT Celebrates Black History Month

Black History Month, celebrated in October, celebrates key figures who have made substantial contributions to the country. At SPWT, we celebrate Black achievement all year round, but especially in October. We are celebrating Black History Month with:

  • Displays across the school, celebrating a diverse range of black role models
  • A Black History Month assembly
  • Tutor time activities in the Sixth Form, exploring Black History
  • Library displays of literature recommendations by Black authors
  • A selection of lunches inspired by African and Black-heritage cuisine
  • A Key Stage Three Art competition on Black Heroes (Year 7) and Black Artists (Year 8-9)
  • A different piece of music played each week by a Black Artist when students go to assembly
  • Poetry readings during morning line-up
  • Exploration of an aspect of Black History during Key Stage Three History lessons, signposting more Black History that students will learn in their lessons throughout the year
