Our Choir recently took part in a remarkable performance at Southwark Cathedral, joining The Outcry Ensemble for a moving rendition of War Requiem.

The concert, organised in collaboration with the British Legion, aimed to raise funds for veterans as part of the Poppy Appeal.

Our talented young singers formed part of the children’s choir section of the performance. Rehearsing for five weeks, they mastered the Latin lyrics and performed alongside a live orchestra and a large audience.

It was both an inspiring and unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Year 7 student Gru reflected on the emotional impact of the evening, saying, “My mum said it really moved her and made her day. She was able to relate to the topic since she had family members who served in the war. She said some people were crying because of how amazing it was.”

Another Year 7 student, Anita, shared, “It was a nice experience I’ll carry with me for my entire lifetime. It has really improved my self-confidence.”

The event not only showcased the choir’s dedication and musical ability but also highlighted the power of young voices to bring communities together through art and remembrance.

The students showed aspiration through their commitment to learning a complex piece in a new language, integrity through their respect for the historical significance of the performance, and community by contributing to a cause that honours those who served and supports their families.
