National High School Model United Nations Conference in New York, USA

Nine St Paul’s Way students participated in the National High School Model United Nations (NHSMUN) Conference in New York. The NHSMUN is a subsidiary of the International Model United Nations Association (IMUNA). Our students were fortunate enough to attend the conference along with more than 4,000 students who attended from around the world and simulated the sessions of the United Nations in New York City. The students represented United Nations diplomats, reflecting the views and policies of their assigned countries, (SPWT represented Kuwait and Malaysia), in specialised committees and plenary sessions.

The conference took place over four days at the Hilton Manhattan and the United Nations Headquarters, New York. Students debated on significant global issues such as nuclear materials, sexual violence as a weapon of war and combating the present forms of xenophobia in Europe.

By participating in this conference, the students gained unparalleled experience in exploring the intricacies of international affairs through consensus building, compromise, and diplomacy.

Delegates were in discussion with students from around the world, broadening their perspective on many of today’s most pertinent international issues. The conference provided the students with invaluable lessons in communication, public speaking and global issues education.

During the stay, students also had the opportunity to explore the sights of New York, visiting the Statue of Liberty, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and taking in the panoramic views from the Empire State Building 86th floor. Additionally, students toured the streets of Chinatown, Little Italy, Times Square, and Central Park.

“It was one of the most valuable experiences I have had so far. I was able to broaden my horizons by networking and debating with students from across the world. I can see how opportunities such as Model United Nations will play a vital role in shaping my life in the future.”       -  Sadia Aziza Islam 10RC
