Topping Out Ceremony
Wednesday 24th March 2010
Almost exactly a year after the
symbolic 'ground breaking' ceremony -
see here
for details - where students, school staff and local
dignitaries celebrated the beginning of building works on the new
St. Paul's Way, a
second event was held, this time to mark the completion of the
external construction work.
Four of our newly-appointed Faraday
Ambassadors - Prince Ahmed of 10P, Shamima Khan of 10A, John Tambo
of 8L and Anika Rahman of 7P - went along to see inside the new
school and to take the podium as our Headteacher, Grahame Price,
delivered a speech in which he talked of the speed with which the
building had gone up and how magnificent it looks today. He
pointed across to the old St. Paul's Way building and commented
upon the contrast between what was and what will be. The new
school will provide many opportunities for local children, their
parents and the wider community, and be a central part of the
local transformation project.
The event was very successful and
was attended by more than thirty people, including school staff,
members of the school's Trust Board, representatives of our
partner organisations such as London Thames Gateway Development
Corporation, King's College London, Tower Hamlets Council, Queen
Mary's, University of East London and Catlins. The Mayor of Tower
Hamlets and local MP, Jim Fitzpatrick were also in attendance and
delivered speeches.
